Hair Masks & Oils

Scalp massager & hair growth:

Does scalp massager help with hair growth?

I got my own electric scalp massager after reading countless dermatologist articles recommending it for hair growth. While there’s no scientific evidence, it does boost blood circulation, which could benefit those experiencing hair loss due to poor circulation. Plus, many use it with scalp serums or oils to enhance absorption. I also came across this girl on Instagram sharing her hair growth journey as she swears by using an electric scalp massager for 5-10 minutes + applying serums as the most essential parts of her haircare routine to keep her hair healthy.

As of today, December 22, I will start using the scalp massager hoping to see hair healthier & longer hair..

Hair Masks

How to use hair masks?

Adding hair masks to your haircare routine is crucial especially if you have curly/wavy hair or often dye your hair. Hair masking helps with keeping the hair healthier & less damaged. Hair masks are usually used right after shampooing, since it provides a deep dose of nourishment, then conditioner can be used after for hair hydration & manageability.

Hair masks are best applied after drying the hair with a towel to remove excess water then it’s best to start by your hair ends up to the length of your hair without reaching the roots.

Kerastase Résistance Masque Extentioniste Hair Mask - $89

the hair mask for dry damaged hair that helps with protecting & nourishing the hair. It’s hydrating & soothing, doesn’t leave the hair sticky or oily but it doesn't necessarily help with damaged hair where no noticed changes seen or felt.

Shu Uemura Ultimate Reset Hair Mask for Very Damaged Hair - $99

A strengthening hair mask that repairs & restores while preventing breakage with intense hydration for dry and damaged hair. I love this mask, how it makes the hair feel softer & healthier. The only problem I have faced with this mask is the price. I do use hair masks at least twice a week because my hair is super dry & I need to keep it as moisturized as possible. While this masks was great for my hair, I had to look for a cheaper mask.

Mielle, Strengthening Hair Masque, Rosemary Mint - $20

Restorative, deeply moisturizing penetrative masque for dry thirsty tresses. The mask nourishes, hydrates & strengthens all at once with this nutrient rich formula. At first, this mask worked well, but after a few uses, it left my hair feeling dry. Wouldn’t recommend. Which is disappointing, especially since I’ve been using their rosemary hair oil too & now I’m unsure if that’s working either.

Repairing & Restoring hair mask - $19 (smaller size) $48 (full size)

I decided to give it a try, & honestly, this might just be my favorite hair mask. I leave it on for 5-10 minutes after shampooing, as recommended, & once I rinse it out, my hair feels instantly soft & detangles effortlessly. The only hair mask I’ve ever repurchased. It’s just that good!

Hair Oiling

How to deep oil your hair?

Deep oiling your hair two to three times a week can significantly improve its condition. Keep in mind, anything new in your hair care routine will take at least three months to show visible results. But when your wash day arrives and + have the time, here's what you can do:

  • Brush your hair

  • Section it

  • Apply your preferred oil directly to the scalp

  • Massage it in so it spreads evenly

  • Add a few drops to the ends

I’ve often read that you should leave the oil on for at least two hours, & some recommend wrapping your oiled hair in plastic wrap. I don’t do that myself, but you can. Right now, I’m using Mielle Rosemary Mint Hair Oil $17.65 - after hearing great things about it, hoping that it works.

I used to always buy my hair oils from herbal stores or apothecaries instead of branded ones. I preferred these because they aren’t perfumed & have no unnecessary add ons. However, after moving to Canada, I came across a woman on Instagram who makes a homemade rosemary hair oil called Amazing Hair Saviour $39. I used her oil for two years, but unfortunately, I didn’t see any improvements. That said, many of her customers struggling with alopecia have experienced great results.
