The Ordinary

Who doesn’t know The Ordinary? Almost no one. However, this is a brief summary about the brand:

The Ordinary is a skincare brand known for its affordable, science-backed products that focus on individual active ingredients. Popular items include Niacinamide for acne, Hyaluronic Acid for hydration, and Retinol for anti-aging. The brand’s minimalist approach lets users customize their skincare routine based on specific concerns.

My favortie products from TO are:

The toner is powerful & can make your skin more sensitive to sun light. I personally use it on my face, but sometimes to do apply it on other areas, such as the armpits, it works as a deodorant & prevents ingrown hairs.

  • Squalane Cleanser: it’s for cleansing dirt & make-up, however, it does not clean clean make-up. But if you like to wash your face when you wake up or before sleeping (even if you didn’t wear make-up) then this would be the best option.

It cleans the face gently & leaves a very soft feeling to the face. Almost all the cleansers I used before make leave my face feeling dry or if they’re oil based, it just didn’t feel clean.

The Retinal Products of The Ordinary:

I am currently trying other products out from The Ordinary, I will begin to talk about their Retinal products, the brand offers 6 types of Retinal serums/creams. They are divided by strengths, depends on whether you’re new retinoid user, that’s great for people who want to add retinoids to their skincare routine with minimal side effects.

What’s retinol & how does it work?

Retinol is a type of retinoid. It is usually used to treat acne, help with preventing wrinkles, & skin damage. What it does is that it helps with increasing new skin cell production which prevents pores from clogging (acne), it exfoliates the skin & increases collagen production (wrinkles & fine lines).

How to use it?

The first step is always a cleanser. Then the retinal can be the 2nd step since it's a treatment & it’s to be applied in the evening only because sunlight can deactivate its beneficial effects. Usually it is recommended to use a small amount of the product on face & neck with avoiding the eye contour.

When you start using retinol the skin becomes dry & this is why you have to make sure that you’re applying a fair amount of moisturizer. In addition, the skin becomes more sensitive to sunlight, so a good amount of sunscreen must be used during the day.

Lactic Acid 5% & 10% + HA:

it’s best used in the evening. An exfoliating formula that promotes renewing skin cells by shedding dead skin cells. it also acts as an anti-aging, reduces rough texture & helps with pigmentation.

Using it, I initially felt like my skin was brighter + healthier, but in reality, it wasn’t. It actually made my skin more sensitive, & over time, I noticed that my skin barrier became weaker.

Some people add it to their body lotions so it exfoliates the dead skin on their legs (to prevent ingrown hair) + on their elbows to make them brighter.

*Avoid using lactic acid if you’re using retinol or other AHAs or BHAs.
